R.O.C.K. time, that is.

What? Gluten Free & Lucky R.O.C.K. Party

Where? Community Room, Healthy Home Market on South Blvd. phone: 704-522-8123

When? March 10th from 10:30 am - 11:30 am

What's Happening? We will have gluten free treats supplied by Healthy Home Market, Mary's Gone
Crackers, Eli's Kitchen, Udi's & much more. There will be a short presentation
entitled, "Good Gluten Grief" which will be child friendly and in which they will
participate. We will also be signing up participants for our annual
R.O.C.K.Presentation for the Charlotte Gluten/Allergen Free Expo which is
scheduled for June 2nd, 2012. This year the kids will be performing with Mrs. U.S.
2011, Shannon Ford!!

After our meeting, join the Charlotte Celiac Connection for Gluten Free Pizza at Fuel Pizza on Park Rd.

For every purchase of a gluten free pizza, Fuel Pizza gives a portion to the Center For Celiac Research.

Charlotte Gluten Free Expo Is On Wait List

R.O.C.K.(Raising Our Celiac Kids) Charlotte's chapter will resume meetings in early September after all the children finish their summer vacations. We have found summer to be very hard to schedule events while families travel and take much needed vacations while children are out of school. Plus, we also have been very focused on the first Charlotte Gluten Free Expo event to be held on August 7th, 2010 at Johnson & Wales University Charlotte Campus.

The Charlotte Gluten Free Expo is making headlines and amazing people with its success before the event has even happened. In a record breaking 2 weeks, the attendee registration capacity of 400 was met! For an idea to turn into a reality in only 60 days time is quite exciting to be a part of. You get caught up in putting 100% of your effort into making something happen and realize things CAN change...You CAN make a difference.

The Expo now has a Cancellation Wait List which those who did not make it to registration can sign up on. In case of a cancellation, we will fill those spots on a first come, first serve basis. And rest assured, if you do not get into this event, the 2011 Charlotte Gluten Free Expo is already being talked about:-)

To have the first expo sponsored by Johnson & Wales University with a top notch culinary department is like a dream come true!

They have generously given us their full support including a demo with internationally known Chef - Peter Reinhart! Chef Peter Reinhart is a multi recipient of the James Beard Foundation Award and noted author with a specialty in baking. He was also instrumental in developing Amy's Kitchen gluten free product line available in stores nationwide.

We are very honored and excited that Dr. Ivor Hill - Professor of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Chief Section Head of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Brenner's Children's Hospital, Wake Forest Medical University will be our keynote speaker!

What is a round table discussion?

A round table discussion is an excellent form of small group communication

when the group is going to be a long term engagement. Roundtable discussions

are extremely useful when it comes to learning, whether the learning be social or

academic. Most of these types of groups are focused on one subject like self

help, educational endeavors, or hobbies.

Of course the term originated because of King Arthur's round table where no Knight was the "head" or king - they were all considered equal.

This will be a pot luck party. Along with your favorite gluten free holiday food item, we ask that you bring an index card with your gluten free recipe printed on it to share with the other party attendees. The dress and format will be casual to allow for a relaxed atmosphere for socializing.

Our R.O.C.K. stars will have a safe and fun activity to do as usual. We have a play room for them to enjoy complete with Holiday movies and games to give us parents time to socialize.

There will be Christmas party favors for them to take home too!

Celiac Awareness Month Halloween Celebration Hosted By R.O.C.K.

That's right! We are throwing a Halloween Celebration in honor of Celiac Awareness Month. We are going to be making "Good Yet Gross Out Halloween Treats" - gluten free of course. Costumes are not required but we hope you will wear one and be as creative as you can. There will be a gluten free prize available for best costume and we will share all our ghoulish recipes so the R.O.C.K. Stars (children) may add onto their cookbooks at home.
